Earners of the Certified Association Executive have demonstrated, through experience and passing an exam, that they have practical experience in association management and executive level knowledge in defined competencies. Earners pledge to uphold codes of ethics and professional conduct. The CAE is maintained through ongoing association management professional development and leadership activities. The CAE Program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) serves as the organization’s chief strategist, thought leader, and operational executive. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides visionary, collaborative, and accountable leadership to advance NONPF’s mission to optimize quality and cultivate leaders in nurse practitioner (NP) education.
The CEO leads a national, mission-driven professional association representing the vast majority of NP educational programs in the United States. The CEO ensures organizational excellence; advances innovation in NP education; influences national policy; strengthens membership value; and secures the financial sustainability necessary for NONPF to thrive as the preeminent global voice for NP educators.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Vision, Leadership & Governance
Partner with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and monitor a forward-looking Strategic Plan aligned with NONPF’s mission, vision, and values.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board, providing timely, data-informed insight to support effective governance, decision-making, generative, and fiduciary oversight.
Foster strong Board engagement, committee effectiveness, and leadership development across the organization.
Sustain and strengthen a cohesive, high-functioning Board culture, enabling alignment on complex and sometimes competing priorities.
Programs & Innovation
Oversee the leadership of national initiatives and facilitate dialogue, aligned with NONPF’s mission, on NP education, workforce needs, and health policy.
Allocate resources and oversee the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of educational programs, conferences, publications, and member resources to ensure relevance, quality, and impact.
External Relations, Policy & Advocacy
Enhance NONPF’s visibility, credibility, and reputation nationally and globally.
Represents NONPF nationally with policymakers, federal agencies, academic partners, health systems, coalitions, and peer organizations.
Anticipate and position NONPF to lead in NP education through strategic partnerships and advocacy leadership.
Cultivate key relationships with other associations and organizations that share common goals and objectives.
Organizational & Operational Leadership
Lead and scale a high-performing staff team, fostering professionalism, performance accountability, and collaboration.
Oversee day-to-day operations, policies, and systems to ensure efficiency, compliance, and strong internal controls.
Align organizational resources, staffing, and infrastructure with strategic priorities.
Financial Stewardship & Resource Development
Ensure long-term financial sustainability through responsible budgeting, financial oversight, and performance monitoring.
Expand, advance, and diversify revenue streams, including membership growth, grants, sponsorships, partnerships, and new programs or services.
Partner with the Board and staff to build development strategies.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Master’s degree in business, leadership, or related field
Skill acumen/Foundational knowledge with non-profit management, budgets and regulations
3-5 or more years of Senior executive leadership experience, ideally within national professional associations.
Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational leadership, financial and program management, and staff development.
3 or more years of experience in national policy development, relationship building, and influencing national conversations.
Must be proficient with technology.
Ability to travel 20-25%
Preferred
Doctorate degree in research, leadership, business, or related field
Certified Association Executive (CAE)
Nurse Practitioner certification and experience or clinical nursing doctorate
