The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), a leading medical specialty society located in North Bethesda, MD, seeks a Social Media and Community Manager to assist the College in furthering its mission.
This position supports the Vice President of Communications in a range of in-person, web, and social media communications, including its foremost responsibility managing ACG's social media accounts and online community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media
Maintain and execute social media calendar, incorporating new, recurring, and evergreen content, triaging requests, drafting and refining engaging copy, identifying accompanying multimedia, and scheduling posts.
Oversee and continue to optimize overall social media strategy, ensuring consistent messaging and publication cadence, assessing content performance, and refining approaches based on best practices in order to strengthen engagement, extend reach, and advance the mission.
Develop, collaborate with design colleagues, and/or source compelling visual content for social posts.
Monitor, engage, and, as appropriate, respond to comments, mentions, posts, and direct messages.
Serve as the liaison for volunteer social media teams, including recruiting, onboarding, and serving as an ongoing resource.
Remain current, staying apprised of: social media trends, platform and algorithm updates, best practices, and sentiment; outside programs and services that provide supplemental support for social media management, exploring value, vetting, and proposing their adoption, when appropriate; and new platforms, evaluating opportunities and potential challenges.
Provide onsite social media coverage of key College events (e.g., Annual Scientific Meeting, Advocacy Day, and others, as advised).
Operate with an innovative mindset, brainstorming, testing, and implementing new ways to present and deliver content.
Collect, review, and report performance analytics across platforms and prepare routine and discrete reports, as needed.
Online Community
Oversee and optimize community strategy to continue growth in user base, spur conversation and engagement, and advance the mission.
Monitor and, as appropriate, respond to posts and comments.
Serve as the primary liaison to expert panel members, including recruiting, onboarding, and serving as an ongoing resource.
Collaborate closely with external technology vendor on multiple fronts.
Spearhead promotion of community membership and participation among new and existing ACG members through a variety of channels.
Review and report performance analytics across platforms and prepare routine and discrete reports, as needed.
Additional Communications Responsibilities
Support certain tasks for ACG Magazine and communications-related committees.
Attend and actively participate in meetings with colleagues, committees, and others.
Make content updates to select webpages.
Support video editing efforts, as needed.
Additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required—preferably in communications, digital media, journalism, or a related field.
5-7 years of communications experience, including in social media management.
Preferred but not required: Experience in health/science communications, government, and/or associations.

Salary and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $60,000-$75,000 annually. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other job-related qualifications.
