Job Title: Director of Membership and Revenue Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
The Director of Membership and Revenue plays a key role on the FEDA staff by working with the CEO and other team members to grow, manage, and strengthen the association's revenue across all streams, ensuring FEDA's long-term financial health and its ability to serve its members.
FEDA is seeking a driven, results-oriented Director to own and elevate the association's total revenue strategy across membership, advertising, sponsorship, and conference. This role is ideal for a seasoned association revenue professional who thrives on ownership, moves work forward without waiting to be told, and turns data and industry insight into revenue growth.
The Director will take the lead on member recruitment and retention, advertising and sponsorship sales, and conference revenue, building the pipeline and delivering the numbers. This is a highly visible, high-impact seat with real ownership, offering a rare opportunity to own the entire revenue picture of a national association and have a genuine hand in every part of how it grows.
This role requires a proactive self-starter who identifies opportunities, brings forward ideas, and makes decisions based on real data rather than guesswork.
Revenue Ownership and Strategy • Own FEDA's total revenue strategy across membership, advertising, sponsorship, and conference, treating the revenue number as your own and driving it relentlessly. • Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities by understanding FEDA's vision alongside prospective and current members' businesses, matching where their goals align with FEDA's value to unlock revenue the association is currently leaving on the table. • Build and execute a two-year revenue growth plan that expands and strengthens existing streams and stands up new ones. • Work with the CEO to set the pace and standard for how revenue work gets done, serving as the revenue point person for staff.
Membership Growth and Retention • Lead new member recruitment through proactive, hands-on prospecting, building and advancing a steady pipeline of qualified prospects. • Retain and deepen existing distributor, manufacturer, and business services member relationships through proactive engagement that increases their involvement and support. • Develop and continually sharpen persuasive, customized messaging for prospects and renewals, drawing on industry knowledge to speak credibly to each company's business and interests. • Own membership-specific communications and campaigns, ensuring they are polished, timely, and professionally delivered, while partnering with the Communications Manager on related marketing efforts.
Advertising, Sponsorship, and Conference Revenue • Own recruitment, retention, and fulfillment of advertisers and sponsors, with a focus on retaining strong partners and growing the overall program. • Keep advertising and sponsorship inventory full and ahead of schedule, avoiding last-minute gaps. • Work with the CEO to manage strategic fee and rate increases that grow non-dues revenue while sustaining participation. • Partner on conference revenue strategy, identifying and closing sponsorship and advertising opportunities tied to FEDA events.
Data, Tracking, and Reporting • Build and maintain revenue trackers, pipeline reports, and progress-to-goal dashboards, knowing exactly where every revenue stream stands at any time. • Make decisions based on real data, current pipeline, and market reality. • Set realistic, defensible revenue targets backed by data and a clear plan to hit them, and report progress transparently. • Provide data-driven input to annual revenue budget planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration • Work across FEDA's team, including communications, programs, tech initiatives, and events, to ensure revenue efforts align with broader association goals and member needs. • Work closely and stay fully aligned with FEDA's outsourced accounting partner on all financial matters, including revenue data and reporting, refunds, and transactions, ensuring both are on the same page on anything with a financial impact. • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities where revenue strategy can support or amplify other FEDA initiatives.
Qualifications • 6 or more years of experience owning membership and/or revenue functions, preferably within a trade or member-driven association. • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding revenue targets, backed by measurable results. • A relentless sense of urgency and ownership, moving work forward proactively without waiting for direction. • Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to identify and capture new revenue opportunities that align with and advance FEDA's strategic goals. • Proficiency in Excel, with comfort building and working from trackers, pipelines, and reports. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to lead multiple revenue streams, meet deadlines, and keep stakeholders aligned simultaneously. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce polished, publication-ready materials and engage credibly with senior industry professionals. • Eagerness to learn the foodservice equipment industry and understand how its various members, from large distributors to smaller dealers and manufacturers, differ in their businesses and needs. • Association database/AMS experience (Novi AMS a plus). • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
Desired Skills
Leadership • Highest personal and professional integrity and strong work ethic. • A relentless sense of urgency and ownership, moving work forward proactively without waiting for direction. • Self-starter who takes ownership and drives results. • Strong interest in learning the industry and using that knowledge to drive revenue.
Revenue Instincts • Naturally driven to find, pursue, and close new revenue opportunities. • Comfortable building relationships that lead to long-term partnerships and sustained revenue. • Business-minded and commercially savvy, with a sharp sense for where value and opportunity meet. • Persuasive and credible in front of senior executives and decision-makers.
Relationship Management • Ability to support the staff's service relationship to members and volunteers, consistently providing responsive and respectful assistance. • Ability to develop and manage cooperative and constructive relationships across all business and functional areas. • Collaborative team-player orientation, with effectiveness in building trust, respect, and cooperation across teams and volunteer committees.
