Position Overview
UCP seeks a Development Operations and Engagement Specialist to support a growing national fundraising program. This hands-on role is ideal for a detail-oriented development professional with strong writing, marketing, and project coordination skills. Working closely with the Director of Development, the specialist will support annual giving, digital fundraising, donor engagement, prospect research, development communications, and reporting.
The specialist will help turn fundraising priorities into organized, well-executed campaigns and donor communications while coordinating activity across development, marketing, finance, and Salesforce functions. This role is essential to ensuring donors and partners receive timely, consistent, and meaningful engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Campaigns & Communications (40%)
Coordinate annual giving, direct mail, email, digital, peer-to-peer, recurring-giving, and planned-giving awareness campaigns.
Develop campaign workplans, schedules, audience segments, content, calls to action, and follow-up activities.
Draft fundraising appeals, donor newsletters, campaign emails, sponsorship materials, website content, and social media copy.
Coordinate fundraising activity across Salesforce, GoFundMe Pro (Classy), email platforms, social media, and the UCP website.
Create peer-to-peer fundraising toolkits, participant communications, and training resources.
Partner with Marketing & Communications on design, branding, publishing, and social media placement.
Monitor campaign performance and prepare post-campaign reports with results and recommendations.
Support donor lists, sponsorship fulfillment, and communications for approved fundraising events.
Donor & Prospect Engagement (30%)
Support cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgment, and stewardship of individual donors and corporate partners.
Coordinate timely donor acknowledgments, recognition, and stewardship communications.
Draft donor correspondence, proposals, sponsorship materials, presentations, and briefing documents.
Prepare prospect profiles, meeting briefs, background information, and talking points.
Coordinate donor meetings, including scheduling, materials, documentation, and follow-up.
Track donor pipelines, stewardship schedules, and sponsorship commitments.
Support donor retention, recurring giving, reactivation, upgrading, and planned-giving awareness.
Assist with routine corporate and sponsorship outreach as assigned.
Development Operations & Reporting (30%)
Maintain accurate donor, prospect, campaign, and fundraising records in Salesforce.
Create and maintain Salesforce campaigns, lists, segments, reports, and dashboards.
Track donor communications, meetings, commitments, and next steps.
Identify and coordinate corrections for incomplete or inconsistent records.
Partner with the Salesforce Administrator on workflows, reports, automation, and data practices.
Prepare recurring reports on revenue, campaign performance, donor participation, retention, and progress toward goals.
Maintain the development calendar and coordinate revenue reconciliation with Finance.
Support audits, annual reporting, Form 990 data needs, and external nonprofit profiles (Candid, Charity Navigator, BBB Wise Giving Alliance).
Maintain development procedures, templates, and documentation; recommend process improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3–5 years of nonprofit development, fundraising, donor engagement, or related experience.
Experience coordinating fundraising campaigns from planning through evaluation.
Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience preparing appeals, donor communications, proposals, sponsorship materials, and digital content.
Working knowledge of individual giving, donor stewardship, corporate fundraising, digital fundraising, and peer-to-peer campaigns.
Experience using Salesforce or a comparable donor database (Salesforce preferred).
Experience with online fundraising, email marketing, and content-management platforms; familiarity with GoFundMe Pro (Classy), WordPress, Canva, Double the Donation, and iContact preferred.
Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
High level of accuracy and discretion with donor and financial information.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Preferred Experience
Corporate sponsorship or partnership support.
Direct mail, annual giving, peer-to-peer, recurring-giving, or planned-giving campaigns.
Digital fundraising and donor-engagement content development.
Nonprofit gift reconciliation and development reporting.
Experience within a national nonprofit, association, federated organization, or affiliate-based network.
