American Public Works Association (APWA) serves professionals in all aspects of public works by providing innovative education and credentialing opportunities for individuals working within the public works industry. The Membership Development Manager is a critical component of the Membership & Engagement Department, focused on expanding membership and directly supporting current members and groups.
About the Membership Development Manager
This position develops and implements membership recruitment efforts, tools, and resources for APWA from a national perspective, including focused recruitment and engagement of young professionals. This person will proactively identify membership opportunities and create strategies to connect with new markets and groups. They will create and manage a recruitment plan with identified metrics and benchmarks to evaluate success of initiatives. They will execute targeted marketing campaigns and develop membership recruitment materials for use by staff and volunteer leaders. The Membership Development Manager will coordinate the national recruitment efforts with internal staff who support APWA chapters, manage external communications for the department, and serve as staff liaison to assigned committees and task forces.
What you will need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public administration, or related area
- A minimum of three years of related experience in membership development, sales, or association management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills using Office 365 programs and CRM(s)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
- Strong team and customer service orientation
- Ability to prioritize workload, detail-oriented with flexibility to serve customers
- Comfortable presenting to various audiences, including potential members, volunteers, board members, and staff.
