Director of Membership, Business Development, and Events
Location: Remote role requiring a dedicated home office.
Travel: 4-6 trips/year for conferences and key events
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Vice President, Operations
Position Summary
DMEC seeks a seasoned Director to lead membership growth, engagement, and retention, expand revenue through business development and membership growth, and drive member value through high-impact events. This leader will own the membership lifecycle, build and execute a multi-year growth strategy, serve on the senior leadership team and partner across the organization and with external stakeholders to strengthen DMEC’s market position. The ideal candidate is a strategic operator who can implement change, improve systems, and deliver results in a dynamic, member-driven association environment.
Core Responsibilities
Membership Strategy, Growth, and Retention
- Own DMEC’s membership strategy and operating plan, aligned to organizational goals and annual priorities.
- Lead the end-to-end membership lifecycle: prospecting, recruitment, onboarding, engagement, renewal, and retention.
- Identifyand pursue new membership segments and markets; build a pipeline that supports sustained growth.
- Use data, member feedback, and market insights to continuously improve member value andmemberexperience.
- Develop scalable structures, implement effective processes, andmaintainaccountability to enhance long-term performance.
- Oversight, and coordination withDirector of Marketing & Communications, inthe development of promotional materialsfor business development,events,andmember communications.
Business Development and Revenue Expansion
- Build and execute a multi-year business development roadmap to grow revenue through DMEC offerings and partnerships (e.g., education/training, certification, sponsorships, exhibits, and strategic partnerships).
- Oversight ofrelationships withmembers,sponsors, partners, and key industry stakeholders to expand reach and support growth.
- Support revenue planning bymaintainingforecasts, tracking performance, andidentifyinggrowth opportunities.
DMEC Events
- Lead the membership growth and business development components of DMECsignatureevents, including two conferences and various regional events(e.g., driving attendance, sponsorship/exhibitor participation, renewal and new-member conversion).
- Provide overall leadershipand project management of DMEC eventsto include internal coordination, oversight of externalvendor and events management, and onsite execution to ensureseamless and successful events.
- Partner with internal teams and external vendors to ensure events deliver strong member value and measurable results.
- Use post-event insights to improve programming, engagement, and commercial outcomes year-over-year.
Leadership, Collaboration, and Vendor Management
- Lead, coach, and develop an internal team(3-4employees)to deliver consistent member and business outcomes.
- Influence cross-functional partnersto alignpriorities, driveexecution, and remove barriers.
- Manage external vendors and stakeholders supporting membership, events, and related initiatives.
- Operate as a visible leader in a member-facing environment,building credibility, momentum, and alignment.
- Foster a collaborative and creative environment, promoting innovation and best practices.?
Metrics, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Creates and manages the annual membership,business development, and events budget, including forecast development, expense scheduling and monitoring, and variance analysis.?
- Define and track key metrics across membership growth, retention, engagement, events performance, and revenue outcomes.
- Provide clear, actionable updates to senior leadership and relevant councils/committees.
- Drive continuous improvement through disciplined planning, measurement, and iteration.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degreerequired; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in membership leadership, association growth, and/or business development (association/nonprofit experience strongly preferred).
- 4+ years of people management experience, including leadingand developingteams, managing budgets, and delivering outcomes.
- Strongproficiencywith CRM and membership/association management systems (e.g., Salesforce and similar platforms), and analytics/reporting to drive performance.?Prior experience with Salesforce, Nimble AMS, and Marketing Cloud Engagement (Pardot)?strongly?preferred.

- This is a remoteposition. A quiet home office isrequired.
