SUMMARY:
The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) seeks an energetic, forward-thinking and driven individual to support NPMA’s legislative and regulatory advocacy activities at the federal level for the professional pest management industry. As a key member of the Public Policy team, the Manager will provide critical support in policy research, grassroots advocacy and coordination of political action committee (PAC) coordination.
This position plays an essential role in helping the department meet its strategic objectives and ensures timely, organized, and impactful advocacy efforts that protect and advance the interests of NPMA members nationwide.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the development and preparation of testimony, regulatory comments, and other external documents for federal policy meetings.
Attend Hill meetings, regulatory meetings and agency briefings in support of the Department.
Guide NPMA’s grassroots advocacy initiatives, including design and implementation of campaigns via VoterVoice and driving member engagement across the country.
Conduct research and develop summaries on federal legislation and regulations using public policy software, government portals, media sources, and other outlets.
Develop content for NPMA’s weekly policy email in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Department.
Maintain the department’s priority issues list and ensure staff remain up to date concerning relevant federal legislative and regulatory activity.
Monitor federal hearings or public meetings related to legislation, rulemakings, and regulations affecting the pest management industry; prepares timely summaries and alerts as needed for internal and external distribution.
Serve as Assistant Staff Liaison to the Public Policy and the PAC Subcommittee, developing agendas, communications and committee work products and administrative support.
Tracks media coverage for federal policy-related developments and potential issues.
Files NPMA’s Political Action committee (PAC) records with the Federal Election Commission, and maintains necessary records, including prior approval for solicitations, and NPMA’s lobbying disclosure reports.
Supports PestPAC initiatives at association events, specifically fundraising and onsite logistics.
Manage third-party vendor in scheduling 200+ Capitol Hill meetings for NPMA’s Legislative Day Conference attendees. Serve as point of contact leading up to the conference for attendees’ questions.
Organize files and conducts data cleanup as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned, in alignment with NPMA’s mission and strategic objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
4+ years’ experience at a congressional, federal or state agency or trade association position.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
A strong commitment to advocating on behalf of public health and business issues.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Detail oriented, possesses organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
Excellent writing, editing and communication skills, including internal policy briefs and association membership communications.
Demonstrated experience in tracking public policy through software such as PolicyNote, utilizing the Congressional Record and searching the Federal Register Notices and Dockets.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with VoterVoice, Quorum, or similar advocacy tools preferred.
Willingness to attend occasional evening or early morning meetings/events related to advocacy and PAC fundraising.
This position is based in Fairfax, VA with a hybrid virtual/in person work schedule. Some travel will be required.
