JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager of Institutional Review will report to the Associate Director of Accreditation and support the accreditation review process by evaluating institutional compliance with accreditation standards, policies, and procedures. This role involves conducting detailed analyses of substantive and non-substantive application submissions, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, preparing reports for commissions or committees, and maintaining ongoing processing and monitoring of applications and complaints. This position plays a critical role in ensuring consistency, fairness, and integrity in the accreditation process. The Manager acts as a trusted liaison to institutions, evaluators, and internal stakeholders, upholding ABHES’s Core Values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. Other responsibilities include staying informed about accreditation issues in higher education and their potential impact, identifying compliance gaps, and recommending corrective actions. This position is ideal for applicants with an interest in higher education and compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviewing applications from ABHES member institutions and programs such as new programs, program revisions, education provider agreements, and/or other institutional/program changes, as needed, in accordance with established ABHES policies and procedures.
Management and processing of complaints.
Performing quality control on visit reports and correspondence to institutions, committee members, and commissioners for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
Writing reports and correspondence, including action letters consequential to the Commission’s accreditation decisions.
Supporting ABHES committees in their efforts to improve ABHES policies through research, analysis, and administrative support.
Tracking and maintaining information about accredited institutions and programs.
Training other staff and schools in accreditation concepts and processes as needed.
Conducting accreditation peer review visits as needed. Travel frequency is, on average, once per month during visit travel cycles (February–April; August–October).
QUALIFICATIONS, DESIRED SKILLS, AND REQUIREMENTS
Experience in postsecondary education administration, accreditation, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or institutional effectiveness (5+ years preferred).
Experience in project management with proven organizational skills, managing multiple complex projects, managing deadlines, and ensuring deliverable accuracy (3+ years preferred).
A master’s degree, preferably in a field of education, higher education administration, leadership, or a related field from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, is preferred.
Knowledge of contemporary accreditation or higher education matters (e.g., distance learning, data analytics, institutional research, workforce initiatives, or similar), a plus.
High attention to detail, ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance.
Ability to facilitate committees, engage stakeholders, and work collaboratively in dynamic, mission driven environments.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with institutions, regulatory affiliates, committee members, and commissioners.
Proficiency with office productivity tools and accreditation/CRM platforms; basic dashboard and reporting skills.
Willingness to travel periodically to postsecondary institutions across the United States and its territories, as needed. Travel frequency is, on average, once per month during visit travel cycles (February–April; August–October).
