Position Description: Director of Finance
The International Association of Movers (IAM) is the leading global nonprofit trade association representing the international moving industry. It is dedicated to advancing professionalism, operational excellence, and ethical business practices among its members worldwide.
The Director of Finance will play a crucial role in the strategic leadership and planning of IAM, and its two affiliated non-profit entities, the Global Moving Foundation and the International Shippers Association. This position is responsible for performing and overseeing all financial operations, ensuring sound fiscal management, and supporting the organization’s mission through effective financial planning, analysis, and reporting. The Director of Finance will report directly to the IAM President and work closely with the Budget and Finance Committee, IAM management, and various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Leadership:
Develop annual operating budget and implement financial strategies that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
Provide strategic financial guidance and support the IAM President on financial planning and risk management.
Financial Management:
Perform and manage all financial operations to include budgeting, forecasting, day-to-day accounting functions, and reporting.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and financial standards applicable to nonprofit organizations.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Lead the annual operating budgeting process, ensuring alignment with programmatic goals and objectives.
Work with the IAM management and meeting planning consultants in the development, management and reporting of yearly annual meeting budget.
Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing timely analysis and recommendations.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the IAM President, IAM Executive Committee, and Budget and Finance Committee highlighting key financial metrics and trends.
Conduct financial analysis to provide IAM leadership with timely and accurate financial data for their information, decision-making and strategic planning.
Leadership and Development:
Promote best practices in fiscal management and reporting across the organization.
Collaborate with and provide advice as well as guidance to staff colleagues for the purpose of achieving the association’s general financial goals.
Risk Management:
Identify financial risks and implement appropriate measures to mitigate them.
Ensure the organization has appropriate insurance coverage and financial controls in place.
Human Resources:
Work with IAM President, in a confidential manner, on IAM staff HR issues as needed.
Assist new employees in enrollment of various benefit programs (insurance, 401K, etc.)
Manage all IAM benefit packages including processing payroll, 401k payment processing, HAS program management, life insurance policies and other HR related programs as needed.
Maintain IAM employee files in secured location.
Administer IAM 401K retirement plan including semi-monthly contribution processing, compiling, and filing annual 5500 IRS plan return, and other administrative activities, as necessary.
Qualifications:
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive fiscal management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the non-profit sector.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
Experience with international nonprofit membership preferred but not required.
Proven experience in financial strategy development and execution, including budgeting and forecasting.
Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including Board members, staff, and external partners.
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.
Working Conditions:
This position may require occasional travel.
Flexibility in work hours may be necessary to accommodate different time zones and organizational needs.
Teleworking is allowed but on a limited basis.
