About the Position
The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) is seeking a motivated and organized Manager of Government Relations to join our collaborative team in Old Town Alexandria. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to work directly with TRALA’s President and CEO and Director of Government Relations on advocacy initiatives that shape federal and state policy affecting the truck renting and leasing industry.
The ideal candidate brings 1-4 years of experience in e government relations, public policy, or an association setting and is eager to learn and grow within a national trade association. This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys a mix of steady, detail-oriented work and busier periods tied to the legislative calendar or association events.
TRALA operates in a hybrid environment that values accountability, flexibility, and teamwork. As part of a small staff, the person in this role will gain experience across many areas of advocacy, from tracking legislation to working with coalitions and directly engaging with members.
Key Responsibilities
Support TRALA’s advocacy program and assist with the development and implementation of lobbying strategies.
Draft policy statements, letters, and testimony; coordinate grassroots efforts; and work with industry partners and associations.
Track and analyze federal and state legislation and regulations affecting the industry.
Participate in and represent TRALA at industry coalitions and working groups focused on federal and state legislative activity. Issues include taxes, environmental regulations, technology, and security.
Write and edit government relations content for TRALA publications and website.
Assist in planning TRALA committee and council meetings, including agendas, materials, and follow-up.
Communicate regularly with association members, including senior executives, on key issues and developments.

Job Requirements
1-4 years of experience in government relations, public policy, or in an association setting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities during busier periods.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Positive attitude, proactive work ethic, and an interest in learning about the truck renting and leasing industry.
