The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is searching for an attorney to join its friendly, hardworking staff. The successful candidate will: review and analyze local, state, and federal legislation pertaining to land use and development, including preparation of white papers on land use and zoning topics and presentation of educational programs to members; conduct legal research on a wide variety of topics; and craft amicus briefs for filing with the state and federal courts. This attorney will interact with staff and members at all levels of the association, providing legal research or information primarily but not exclusively on land use, zoning & planning, property rights, and discrimination issues.
The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant legal experience, a demonstrated ability to analyze, research and write, and the ability to balance multiple assignments. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a team setting, and a willingness to travel on an occasional basis. Other requirements:
- Understanding of the land development process, and knowledge of other developer and builder issues on a national level,
- Knowledge of land use law, the federal Administrative Procedure Act and Constitutional matters relevant to land development,
- Experience working with trade associations and ability to work in a team environment,
- Strong communication and presentation skills,
- 3-5 years relevant experience,
- C. Bar license or the ability to obtain.
