General Purpose of Position
Following Kellen Best Practices, the Sales Director is responsible for a robust territory of advertising, sponsorship, and exhibit sales across a portfolio of trade association and professional society clients.
This position can be remote but residency in Atlanta, GA or Washington DC is preferred.
Essential Functions
- Works closely with Executive Vice President; Senior Director, Business Development; and Director, Sales
- Manages entire sales cycle from prospect identification to pitch to close for exhibition, sponsorship, and advertising sales for assigned clients
- Responsible for achieving monthly and annual sales goals tied to specific properties in the client portfolio
- Responsible for tracking, investigating, and reporting sales information as well as resolving problems and responding to all project inquiries
- Serves as primary lead on client account(s) and has full responsibility for all sponsorship and exhibit sales
- Manages and organizes all client programs to ensure they are performing at or above plan
- Creates and manages all outbound sales projects including email marketing campaigns
- Researches competitors and adjacent groups to identify new prospects to target
- Enters and maintains daily sales activity information in company CRM
- Directs sales forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly
- Provides strong leadership and direction to the clients
- Gains trust, credibility, and respect with the clients and client board of directors, as well as working effectively with other departments, such as Marketing/Communications and senior management
- Maintains and updates sales and customer records
- Compiles monthly sales reports
- Compiles historic sales data
- Directs feedback from customers to relevant departments
- Supports the sales departments with other administrative tasks, as requested
Qualifications
- College degree plus 5-7 years’ experience working in a related capacity
- Inside, outside sales, and customer service experience required
- Experience with sponsorship, exhibition, and advertising sales in the medical society space or adjacent industry
- Knowledge of medical society landscape and rolodex of relevant contacts
- High energy, versatile and multi-task oriented, self-directed, and ability to accurately manage diverse details at one time
- Must be a positive team player in a challenging and changing environment; includes working with and being dependent upon a variety of personnel
- Flexibility under competing time requirements and changing deadlines
- Excellent focus and ability to prioritize effectively
- Experience with CRM software such as Salesforce, or similar
- Familiarity with sales reports and sales records
- Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
