We are seeking a visionary and strategic thinker to serve in the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the New York State Society of CPAs. The position requires a person who approaches their responsibilities in a creative and strategic fashion and is a proven professional with strong and effective leadership skills. The successful candidate understands how to lead, manage, and motivate staff members for collaborative success. Ability to respect and embrace unique culture of the organization, volunteer leadership, members, and other constituents is key to the success and effectiveness of serving in this role.
Assist with the overall management of assigned departments (departments TBD)
Assist in carrying out Society initiatives to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of assigned departments
Provide oversight of membership recruitment, retention, and engagement policies and procedures to ensure and expand value proposition for constituents and members
Attend all Board of Directors Meetings and Executive Committee Meetings
Participate in formulating, developing, implementing, and administering long range goals and objectives at the direction of leadership
Participate in analyses of activities and operations to determine most effective practices for the Society
Provide input for development of new and emerging services and activities
Uphold and model standards of quality across all areas of responsibility
Supervise staff and day-to-day operations
Work with staff to develop, maintain, and use the systems and resources that facilitate the effective operation of assigned departments
Serve as hands-on manager to collaborate with staff and to ensure continuity within the organization’s activities
Direct and coordinate activities to achieve goals and objectives for areas of responsibility
Participate in annual budgeting activities to align programming with priorities articulated by Society leadership
Adhere to budget and audit guidelines to fulfill fiduciary responsibility of the Society
Previous experience working in a association or non-profit organization
Minimum of 8-10 years’ senior management experience
Supervisory experience with teams of at least three or more
Experience managing complex activities
Exceptional oral and written communication and facilitation skills
Experience leading nonprofit organization with volunteer leadership
Advanced skills using Microsoft Office
Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external constituents
Possess business acumen and financial management skills
Possess skills to continually drive quality improvement in operations
Practical understanding of technology and tools associated with project management, time management, and collaboration
Positive attitude with ability to identify creative solutions to complex problems
Exceptional interpersonal and decision-making skills
Ability to identify and prioritize issues
High integrity and honesty
