Position Title:
STAFF ACCOUNTANT
Department: FINANCE AND OPERATIONS
Reports To: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

$58,700 - $88,100
Summary
The purpose of this position is to serve as the main staff accountant working with the outsourced accounting team.
All activities must support the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ (“NAHROs’”) strategic goals and objectives and produce results that accomplish the goals of the Finance and operations department
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Process accounts payable and cash disbursements – create and process ACH and wire payments. Issue and distribute A/P checks and wire confirmations to payees. Process all other types of payments and disbursements in accordance with POA policies and procedures.
Prepare and record semi-monthly payroll journal entries.
Process accounts receivable - create and issue invoices, enter in accounting system, apply payments and maintain AR schedules.
Processing and recording of all cash receipts including bank deposits, incoming ACH bank transactions and incoming wires.
Prepare monthly AP & AR aging reports.
Support the Finance Office and staff in its core functions and day-to-day operations.
Research and resolve incoming/outgoing payment discrepancies with vendors, program teams and administrative staff.
Performs general accounting inquiries and other related duties for the organization.
Assist in preparation of monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
Assist in maintaining the general ledger.
Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
Assist with tax forms for federal, state, and local government agencies.
Reviews payments and prepare annual tax forms Form 1099 and 1096 forms for vendors and file reports online according to deadlines.
Collaborate with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
Manages the purchasing and invoicing system.
Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
working experience in accounting or related field required
Previous experience with a membership association preferred
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Well organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Effectively multi-task with planning and efficiency
Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize assignments
Proficient use of applicable technology; specifically AMS system, Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, etc.)
Ability to work independently (self-starter) and within the team environment
Good analytical and time management skills
Key Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience working with a membership association management system such as Protech or Abila
Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
The compensation range for this position is $58,700 - $88,100. NAHRO offers a generous slate of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurances, transportation allowances, and retirement, among others.
