The Communications Manager is responsible for society branding, advertising, marketing/promotional materials, newsletter, mobile applications (apps), website content, and public relations. This individual would NOT supervise other staff and would report to the Director of Membership, Marketing, and Communications.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategy/Management: Facilitate overall organizational communication strategy in concert with the Executive Director, President, and Communications Committee.
Support and manage the ASRA Pain Medicine branding/messaging.
Coordinate and support the work of Communication, Newsletter, and Website & Social Media committees.
Develop and maintain budgets for newsletter, website, public relations, apps, and owned artwork.
Marketing:
Produce ASRA Pain Medicine Digest e-newsletter (or other product[s]) to keep audiences informed.
Develop and produce (or direct/contract) all print and digital marketing collateral, including email marketing campaigns. Design or direct/contract designers as needed.
Membership
Collaborate with Membership Team on development and implementation of annual membership marketing plan.
Provide editorial and design support to all membership products and services including SIGs, trainee programs, etc.
Meetings
Develop and execute marketing campaigns for ASRA Pain Medicine conferences, workshops, and other projects.
Manage the production of programs, flyers, or other print/online deliverables for the meetings and courses.
Collaborate with the Meetings Team on materials for the website.
Consult with the Meetings Team on meeting apps to ensure materials are branded and that promotional language is appropriate.
Hire and direct he activities of meeting photographers.
Manage and promote the ASRA Pain Medicine-owned artwork files.
Manage the blast email schedule. Oversee email list management.
Direct advertising purchases and barters.
Editorial/writing:
Develop, maintain, and train appropriate staff on an ASRA Pain Medicine Style Guide.
Copyedit/proofread Board correspondence, position statements, etc. as assigned.
Write copy for news items, blog posts, news releases, marketing pieces, email blasts, etc.
Contract and oversee the work of contract medical writers/editors as needed.
Serve as in-house expert on permissions and use of copyrighted materials.
Public relations:
Serve as primary contact for media and coordinate media responses in conjunction with President and Executive Director.
Produce press releases and oversee public relations campaigns as needed.
Other Communications/Technical:
Oversee management of ASRA Pain Medicine News production including freelances/vendors.
Oversee maintenance of all website content.
Facilitate website development as project manager and webmaster.
Oversee hosting and maintenance contractor.
Facilitate new content submissions and approvals as needed.
Develop traffic and conversion reports and analysis.
Collaborate with the Membership, Marketing, and Communications director regarding website use or connection to the ASRA Pain Medicine database.
3. Oversee/direct website content and presentation, social media presence, and other communication vehicles (livestreams, podcasts, videos, apps, etc.
4. Coordinate the maintenance of all ASRA Pain Medicine apps and track their activity.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required
At least five to seven years’ experience in a similar role within an association or society
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
Well versed in social media with an understanding of the difference between personal and corporate social media presences
Broad understanding of current web and mobile best practices and how to use these technologies to get results such as delivering member value and increasing visibility of programs, products, and services.
Ability to prioritize; plan and carry out responsibilities independently or as part of a team
Diplomacy, discretion, independent judgment
Ability to build collaborative, working relationships with volunteers from diverse cultural backgrounds
Ability to travel, work overtime and lift up to 50 pounds, as necessary
