About Kendall County Community Food Pantry
The Kendall County Community Food Pantry (KCCFP) traces its roots back to the 1980s during a Caterpillar strike that lasted 6 months. To help each other endure, neighbors got together and traded what they had. Donations from local merchants were coordinated and distributed to the neediest families and the pantry was born. Almost 40 years later, the KCCFP is operates out of a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Yorkville. We bring in thousands of pounds of food, clothing, household supplies, and even pet food, weekly from local donors and grocers, organize it, and then offer it to several hundred families each Thursday. We’ve opened monthly satellite operations in Plano and Oswego. One important thing has not changed over the years -- our heart to care for our neighbors in need. The pantry serves a wide array of clients. We care for people whose main living space is a tent or their car. We care for families whose sole income is federal and state aid. Lots of fixed-income seniors, veterans, and disabled persons rely on the pantry to try to make ends meet. We also help “regular” and “mainstream” families. It happens. A job is lost, a family member has a medical crisis, or some other big... upset occurs. Under normal conditions, many families are just a few paychecks away from the heart-wrenching position of deciding whether to pay the electric bill or buy groceries. The KCCFP stands ready to help.
