About Linguistic Society of America
The Linguistic Society of America (LSA) was founded in 1924 to advance the scientific study of language and its applications. LSA plays a critical role in supporting and disseminating linguistic scholarship both to professional linguists and to the general public. The programs of the LSA are focused in the following areas: Publications; Meetings and Institutes; Professional Resources and Recognition; Advocacy and Public Policy; and Public Education. Our 4000+ members hail from all over the world, and include students, researchers, and those with an interest in linguistics and linguistic issues. Anyone can join. Most of our members hold an academic degree in linguistics, or are currently pursuing one. Many LSA members holding the PhD work in academic settings where they conduct research, teach courses, and collaborate with colleagues in related fields of inquiry. A small but growing number of LSA members are working in government and industry, applying their linguistics knowledge to developing new technologies, resources and tools for use by consumers, corporate clients and the general public.
