Kellen, one of the world’s leading partners to trade associations and professional societies, is adding a Senior Account Executive position to its association management practice in Washington, DC. This individual will serve as a strategic leader in Kellen’s portfolio of clients in the food and nutrition industry.
The successful candidate will be a strong leader with relevant management and scientific skills from within the food and nutrition industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing multiple nutrition, scientific, regulatory, and policy initiatives and will have the opportunity to positively impact U.S. and global nutrition policies.
General Purpose of the Position This individual will serve a leading role for one or more association clients within one of Kellen’s largest industry vertical markets. This individual will work with Executive Directors to execute strategic objectives, help manage staff teams, and will serve as a go-to expert on key topics related to science, nutrition, and policy.
Essential Functions
Manage and achieve strategic priorities for science and nutrition-focused initiatives for multiple clients, including day-to-day oversight of committees/tasks, completion of projects to develop industry consensus positions in a timely basis, and working with internal teams and client association members.
Stay informed about client industry trends and issues in relevant scientific and nutrition fields in order to make recommendations for association action which could range from development of strategic initiatives, position statements, critiques, review articles, press releases, and/or social media content.
Execute regular client meetings/conference calls, including preparation of meeting materials, and conducting all other necessary follow up utilizing a consistent, transparent process to meet deadlines and project objectives.
Serve as a publicly facing leader of client associations internally and externally, representing client interests to various stakeholders.
Represent clients in scientific/technical meetings, provide oral and/or written comments as appropriate and provide written meeting summaries.
Coordinate with communications teams regarding client issues and lead agreed-upon activities.
Lead issues management on crisis related issues, as needed.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, health professionals, government agency staff, and other stakeholders.
Provide strategic management of client priorities as well as financial/budgetary oversight to ensure that the client is operating efficiently.
Basic Qualifications
8+ years’ professional experience, preferably including business and management experience.
Masters degree in a discipline related to science (e.g., nutrition, public health) or related field.
Registered Dietician (RD) and food industry experience a plus.
Polished communication skills – both written and verbal – and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with consistent attention to detail and deadlines.
Conscientious interest in problem-solving and initiative, creativity and determination to evolve successful solutions.
Self-motivated team player who is accountable for initiating and directing projects through to completion in a challenging and changing environment and with a minimum of management direction.
High energy, versatile and multi-task oriented with flexibility to prioritize diverse workload under competing time requirements and changing deadlines.
Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and adopt new technologies.
Effective planning and organization skills to effectively manage multiple client relationships at any given time.
Reliability to maintain established schedules, manage time and priorities, and meet commitments and deadlines.
Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to set priorities based on customer needs and organizational priorities and preferences, and develop solutions to client challenges.
Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to effectively manage through change and transition.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with poise, tact and diplomacy.
Ability to stay abreast of client industry trends and assimilate new job-related information appropriately.
