GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  

A healthy revenue stream is at the heart of any organization’s long-term survival.  If you have a natural tendency keeping things organized, enjoy working with a small team, and can look at a process and make recommendations for improvement, you will appreciate what this position has to offer.  You will need to possess a good understanding of governmental and non-profit accounting as it relates to private contributions, grants from the federal government, meeting registrations, merchandise sale, association membership dues and pass-through agreements.  An extensive knowledge and ability to work through complex funding scenarios to figure out the proper accounting treatment will be essential. 

This position reports to the Controller and the Chief Financial Officer and works with another revenue accountant on a daily basis, along with four other accountants on the team. The team meets regularly and works through projects on a collaborative basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

1. Acts as primary financial function liaison for the association management system (Fonteva/salesforce.com) by attending meetings, coordinating input from the accounting staff, responding to questions, and interpreting changes in procedures or policies that affect financial management practices;
2. Ensure the association management system (Fonteva) is reporting accurate meeting attendance, registration and other financial records. Further review and reconcile the financial records prior to importing to the accounting system (Multiview).
3. Responsible for registration support (invoicing, credit card research, etc.) for all invitational, Conference, and other hosted meetings including the review and reconciliation of set-up, online e-commerce, and closing of meetings;
4. Monitors daily cash and revenue accounting transactions to ensure conformity with generally accepted accounting principles, determining the propriety and accuracy of cash receipts, reviewing accounts receivable adjustments, preparing and reviewing association management system transactions and related sales tax requirements;
5. Initiates monthly cash and revenue accounting closing activities, including preparation of revenue and related journal entries, analysis of deferred revenue and unbilled A/R, roll forward of account activity, account reconciliations and fluctuation analyses;
6. Review outstanding aged AR balance on a monthly basis. Make regular and concerted effort in collecting outstanding balances;
7. Monitors and records cash and investment account transactions; reconciles bank statements with the general ledger on a monthly basis;
8. Responsible for fixed asset records and related software module. Records  additions, disposals and monthly depreciation journal entries.  Retires assets from the subsidiary ledger;
9. Researches and compiles data and statistical information necessary to prepare and file sales and other tax returns as needed;
10. Assists in determining tasks and priorities of accounting staff; schedules cross training; and assists with unusual problems and heavy workloads;
11. Evaluates performance of accounting technicians and assistants and makes personnel recommendations to more senior managers;
12. Reviews account balances periodically and resolves problems;
13. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organization;
14. Completes special projects as required setting timetables, determining priorities, managing time, developing and organizing information, monitoring progress and adjusting for project completion.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities of two staff members. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is a mostly performed in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  You will be required to utilize standard office equipment such as filing cabinets, copy machines, laptops, printers, scanners, and smartphones.
