NASW is seeking a Tax & General Ledger Accountant to performs tax accounting for the National Office and Chapters and perform general ledger accounting for the Association’s related entities/funds including PACE, LDF and the Chapter Development Fund. This includes the timely preparation of sales and use tax filings for the National Office and Chapters on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis and the preparation of property tax returns in accordance with applicable state guidelines and deadlines. This position ensures timely preparation of cash entries, month-end closing journal entries and account reconciliations, particularly relating to the financial statements for related funds/entities including PACE, LDF and the Chapter Development Fund; this position prepares and examines a variety of internal financial statements for completeness, accuracy and conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS:
1. Skills: Requires excellent organizational and administrative skills consistent with the preparation and filing of multiple jurisdictional tax reports and preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports. Requires strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to understand and execute on complex oral and written instructions. Requires strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface with various state taxing authorities and managers throughout the Association including the chapters. Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills; must be able to identify, analyze and resolve complex accounting issues and be able to perform both complex and routine accounting transactions. Requires ability to prioritize and complete various time critical tasks within assigned deadlines; must be adaptable to an environment with multiple competing priorities.
2. Knowledge: A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field is required. Position requires a sound knowledge of accounting policies, principles and procedures in the areas of sales and use tax, property tax, fixed asset accounting, cost accounting, financial statement preparation, financial auditing and internal control policies and procedures. CPA or CPA-eligible is preferred.
3. Experience: Requires 4-7 years of prior related work experience in addition to the education requirement. Requires strong experience in using accounting software (Dynamics SL preferred) and strong facility with spreadsheets (Excel).
