ASID represents 25,000 members by building cross-functional and interdisciplinary relationships among designers across all specialties including design practitioners, students, manufacturers, and suppliers.
At ASID, we have worked hard in the last few years to modernize who we are and to put in place a new foundational vision that Design Impacts Lives. In 2016, ASID moved into our new headquarters in downtown Washington DC. This new and innovatively designed office space supports the health and well-being of our employees while improving our organization’s productivity, engagement, and retention.
We are looking to hire an Associate, Community Engagement, reporting to the VP, Community and Education Engagement, this person will manage member engagement in a number of ASID communities including our professional chapters, student chapters, as well as national ASID volunteer groups. The candidate will perform primarily in the areas of administration, training, program delivery, project management, and helping to research and build out new community structures.
The successful candidate will work closely with all team members to support chapter and community development that strengthens our relationships and engagement with our community; create and deliver programs to build chapter leader skill; deliver local engagement programs that are diverse in scope and that serve to meet the demands of design professionals in all career stages (from student to principal level) as well as interior design consumers/clients.
The person we are looking for has a minimum of two years relevant experience in member/customer engagement, volunteer training/management and project management. Candidate should have a diplomatic demeanor, a high-level of communication and presentation skills, and good organization skills. The candidate will fulfill the following:
Serve as a point of contact for community and volunteer engagement
Act as primary responder to member queries by email and phone
Primary support of ASID student engagement activities
Coordinate and support ASID Ambassador programs
Provide data management and analytics producing routine and custom reports.
Plan in-person volunteer group meetings
Coordinate support materials orders, deliveries, and shipments for offsite events
Bachelor’s degree required.
Association management experience preferred. Previous experience in chapter/component management, volunteer leadership training and/or virtual communities is very helpful.
Knowledge of association management software and ability to create data reports is required.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Two years minimum of experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in program development, program coordination, program management and working with volunteers.
Ability to learn aspects of and having an appreciation for the interior design trade required; Eventually you will become comfortable in the profession’s language in order to best serve stakeholders through program development and delivery
Must possess strong customer service skills, application of critical thinking, a sense of urgency, excellent organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail.
Negotiation, administrative and planning skills are very helpful.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment, with strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships with others.
A motivated self-starter with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects is essential.
Infrequent travel to engage w/ stakeholders to strengthen relationships.
