Headquartered in Tulsa, OK, the Director, Global Events Operations will manage the planning and executing of logistics and on-site management of the Society’s conventions and events. The Director is responsible for managing domestic and international conferences, workshops and forums involving the drafting and negotiation of the memorandum of agreement, planning the event schedule, contributing to the marketing plan and brochures, recommending committee members, building and monitoring budget, selecting and negotiating with the contractors and choice of venues. Also responsible for defining and developing the operating plans to achieve defined goals including financial and manpower requirements and directing resources and staffing. Negotiate and direct the negotiation of contracts with vendors, public municipalities, partner groups, and societies as related to meetings, workshops, forums and conferences. The Director will supervise a staff of 8.
A Bachelor’s degree in marketing or sales management, or a related field, or a minimum eight years’ experience in the domestic and international meetings and convention industry is required. To perform this job successfully candidates must have a minimum five years’ progressive experience in the events and conventions industry, with minimum three years in the international community. Minimum three years of supervisory experience also required. Five years’ experience in operating and planning large domestic and international meetings and events is preferred.
Job-Specific Skills and Knowledge needed for this position include proficient in Microsoft Office, advanced oral and written skills to complete major sales of exhibit space and represent the Society at the Annual Meeting and other domestic and international events, advanced negotiation skills to close contracts for major exhibition space, contractor services or sponsorship, and intermediate interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sponsors and major exhibitors.
