The National Art Education Association (NAEA) is seeking a full-time Editorial Assistant for editing and proofing of Association publications. These include its flagship periodicals, journals, marketing pieces, books, and other projects such as its annual convention program and resource catalog.
Work closely with rest of Publications team to proofread and edit a newsletter (5 issues/year), magazine (6 issues/year), academic journal (4 issues/year), and regular marketing materials. Proofread other projects and special publications as needed.
Additional newsletter responsibilities include columnist correspondence—maintaining submissions, deadlines, and masthead updates—as well as proofing, editing, and preparation for production.
Edit, proof, and/or fact-check Association marketing and informational e-blasts, advertisements, website text, and other promotional materials.
Enforce editorial standards consistent with NAEA house Style Guide and the current edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Assist in checking image permissions and usage as submitted to Editorial Manager program.
Work with Publications Manager and/or graphic designer to proof layouts of periodicals and books from designers or publishers.
Perform research in response to publication inquiries from authors, editors, and Association members as needed.
Proof/edit and share files through file-sharing platforms such as Google Docs, Dropbox, and Acrobat.
Work both collaboratively and independently on multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
BA in Publishing, Communications, or related degree.
Minimum 5 years of professional experience, working in a nonprofit environment preferred. At least 3 years of direct publications experience with membership organization helpful.
Eye for detail a must! Strong copyediting and proofreading skills, as well as experience, are required. Familiarity with APA Style Manual preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat, including Word tracked changes and PDF editing tools. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Mac, and database management skills preferred. Experience with Editorial Manager or similar online submission systems a plus.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, marketing, and organizational skills. Ability to organize, write, and coordinate communications to ensure production deadlines are met.
