The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) has a position opening for a Director of Business Development (Director). Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director is responsible for the dramatic growth of auxiliary revenues, especially facility rentals and catering commissions, retail operations, and the sale of student, alumni, and editioned art work. The Director works closely with the President and Senior Staff to develop the vision and strategies to expand and create lines of business to support PAFA’s mission. The Director is the liaison to the Revenue Committee of the Board of Trustees, which is a key resource in envisioning and developing business opportunities for PAFA. The Director will manage two direct reports and a team of six employees.
This position will be responsible for leading the facility rentals team and relationships with PAFA’s two caterers to increase PAFA’s facility rentals and catering commission to dramatically increase activity and profit. They will leads PAFA’s retail operations at its Museum Store and satellite location, PAFA Northwest in Chestnut Hill, and dramatically increases sales and net. They will lead the sale of student and alumni artwork and editions produced by PAFA. They will collaborate with the Marketing and Information Technology teams to develop and grow E-Commerce at PAFA, especially as it relates to rentals, retail, and the sale of art work. They will work to develop more robust relationships with existing business partners. They will develop new relationships in the business and non-profit community to enhance PAFA’s profile and revenue opportunities.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree; Master's in Business Administration (MBA) degree preferred. Candidates will have at least 5 years of professional experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in business development and revenue generation. Candidates will have the ability to work and lead effectively in a collegial and participatory manner emphasizing team-building with all segments of the campus community. Candidates should be able to effectively analyze problems, determine solutions, and take decisive action leading to successful outcomes. Candidates should have the ability to anticipate conditions and plan ahead to overcome challenges or capitalize on opportunities. Candidates should be able to demonstrate innovative and creative approaches, particularly related to solving complex business and financial problems that lead to goal attainment, revenue generation, and cost savings. Candidates should have the ability to effectively collaborate with other executives, leaders and teams to achieve organizational goals. Candidates should exhibit a commitment to and understanding of the mission of PAFA, and have demonstrated experience in employee supervision and mentoring. Experience working in an educational environment is desired.
