NSA is a 501(c)6 professional society created to represent and support accountants and tax professionals throughout the United States by providing a forum for personal and professional growth through member communities, education opportunities, leadership programs, and issue advocacy. NSA is in its seventy-third year and offers a competitive salary and benefits, including medical, dental and 401(k) plan.
The ideal candidate for the EVP position will be a confident, driven and experienced leader able to reinvigorate NSA’s management structure, drive the Society towards the achievement of the Board’s strategic vision, and suggest ways to advance the Society’s mission. She or he will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to the Society including:
Entrepreneurial, innovative and thoughtful leadership
Strong organizational leadership skills and proven experience in building/managing high-functioning teams
Working knowledge of the accounting and tax profession
Experience in the federal legislative and regulatory environment with emphasis on IRS relations and tax law
Excellent oral and written communication skills (mandatory) including the ability to articulate the value of NSA to its members and stakeholders.
High energy and goal-oriented with impeccable ethical standards.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with the Board, staff, organization supporters/stakeholders, policy makers, and affiliated state organizations.
Insight and vision in identifying and anticipating industry trends and how they affect the role of NSA and its members
Respectful, honest, transparent, and ethical leadership style
Ability to facilitate a Board to consensus on issues of strategic importance
Qualified candidates should have concrete, demonstrable experience and other qualifications including:
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to think strategically and critically, synthesize complex issues and information, and manage change
Experience maintaining a presence with public and elected officials
Availability for occasional travel and required after hours work/events including some weekends
Knowledge of the tax and accounting profession
Three years of supervisory or administrative experience
Advanced degree or credential, ideally MBA, JD, MPA, CPA, or Accredited Business Accountant
Prior experience as an Executive Vice President, Executive Director or CEO of a non-profit organization
Membership society or related management experience
Proven track record working successfully with a non-profit Board
A record in growing organizations from a revenue, membership and value perspective
Experience with using social media, website and other technology to communicate with members and other stakeholders
Experience with dealing with reporters and the press on issues affecting non-profit organizations
