BUSINESS AND CONSULTING PRINCIPAL
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing approximately 2,800 local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, has an immediate opening for full-time Business and Consulting Principal.
The business and consulting principal, working under the general direction of the Chief of Programs, involves frequent collaboration with fellow staff, partner organizations, health departments, and clients. And, as requested by the Executive Director, has interactions with NACCHO’s board members. The work of this position requires the exercise of discretion, sound independent judgment, a high level of accountability, and the ability to maintain the trust of other members of the Executive and Management Teams.
The Business and consulting principal is responsible for leading the team during client consulting projects, creating the structure for the growth and development of NACCHO consulting, developing marketing relationships to secure new business, helping write proposals to close new business and helping develop more junior staff. On an engagement level, a Principal would be responsible for a variety of tasks including: recognizing core problems, identifying and prioritizing opportunities, developing recommendations, implementing solutions, and selling additional work. Principals are given the opportunity to both develop and improve their skills across a diverse set of consulting environments. The Principal is also responsible for the analysis, design, scheduling, construction and delivery of solutions to meet client expectations. The principal consultant oversees the day-to-day operations of NACCHO’s consulting services and business development. In some cases, the principal consultant will lead several client consulting projects.
Unit Specific Information
NACCHO client consulting teams tend to be small but have high impact. A typical consulting engagement team is composed of 1-3 professionals, so all members of the team have opportunities to interact with the senior management at the client and in some cases with the client’s financial institutions and/or private equity sponsor. Additionally, this role focuses on unrestricted revenue generation through internal and external partnerships, sales, and new idea generation.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
Provide vision, oversight and process for NACCHO’s consulting services and business development.
Direct and oversee program management functions for NACCHO consulting services.
Serve as principal point of contact for requests and inquiries regarding issues related to NACCHO consulting. This will include connecting clients to the NACCHO subject matter expert and supporting NACCHO staff to deliver consulting services.
Contribute to long-term NACCHO consulting project planning and business development, including identifying future activities and searching for and engaging with clients to purchase NACCHO products.
Ensure collaboration across NACCHO consulting to maximize programs operational effectiveness and value added.
Serve as resource to consulting staff to ensure timely, high quality deliverables.
Provide overall supervision and mentoring of staff to ensure completion of consulting activities and professional growth and development.
Oversee project work plans and ensures the timely completion of project objectives and activities.
Ensure fiscal requirements of projects related to consulting are met.
Oversee the development of consulting scopes of work.
Generate new business.
Represent NACCHO at national, state, and local meetings, conferences, and other public events on issues related to their unit, as needed.
Liaise with other national organizations, industry, and federal, state, and local partners, as appropriate.
Supervise the Consulting Specialist.
Other duties as needed.
Oversee the consulting specialist consulting budget management in collaboration with Chief of Programs and NACCHO fiscal staff.
Unit/Program Specific Duties
Managing and mentoring the team of consultants assigned to project;
Executing and completing assigned projects within the time, scope and budget negotiated with the client;
Evaluating existing systems and procedures and making recommendations for improvement; and
Providing direction and order for NACCHO consulting services, which includes internal protocols.
Engage with new clients and execute contracts in new markets.
Master’s degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience
Experience with another management consulting, especially in a non-profit membership organization is a plus

Willingness to travel regularly (6-12 times per year).
Must be authorized to work in U.S. (permanent residency with permanent work

Full-time, Exempt, TERM: This position is considered Fiscal Year term, however it is a mission critical role. NACCHO will continually strive to maintain funding for all positions.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $145,840; salary commensurate with experience
