The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Manager, Environment, Health & Safety in its Plastics Division. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that advance positive science-based positions on environment, health and safety issues for all polyurethane markets. The position is also responsible for managing environment, health and safety outreach programs, developing and updating literature and coordinating research projects as well as carrying out these projects in cooperation with the Center for Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) members, American Chemistry Council (ACC) staff and member groups, key downstream customer organizations and their members, regulatory and legislative bodies, and the polyurethane customer community to help bring awareness to users of MDI, TDI and polyols used in manufacturing polyurethane. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, CPI.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, three to five years professional experience, preferably in an industrial product safety, regulatory, trade association or government relations environment and at least two years’ experience working in a trade association, regulatory agency or health, safety and environmental consulting/business experience. Working knowledge of environment, health and safety regulations and statutes as well as experience with the regulatory processes and guidance development, developing and writing regulatory comments, position papers and/or other written responses to government initiated public policy positions are a must.
