The Cancer Support Community (CSC) is seeking a Director of Development to lead a fast-growing fundraising operation that includes individual donors, family foundations, planned giving, and cause marketing ventures.
CSC is the largest professionally-led nonprofit network of cancer support worldwide. CSC is dedicated to ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.
The individual selected for this role will be a self-starter, experienced in securing individual gifts and foundation grants and committed to fulfilling the mission of CSC. The incumbent will report to the Vice President, Development and External Affairs, and will have at least two direct reports. CSC includes a headquarters office in Washington, D.C. and three additional national office locations, Denver, Colo., New York, NY, and Philadelphia, Pa.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assumes accountability for all aspects of CSC’s individual giving programs, including a major donor program, foundation relations, online giving communities, and business supporters
Cultivates long-term, collaborative, strategic relationships with select individuals and foundations
Advises organizational leadership and board of directors on up-to-date fundraising issues affecting the organization, such as donor retention and industry-wide trends
Establishes process to facilitate the growth of two new revenue streams, planned giving and family foundation outreach
Works with supervisor and other team members on events, issue briefings, and other ways to engage donors and thought leaders in raising the profile of the organization’s policy and research-related assets
Incorporates new ideas and best practices into email and social media fundraising efforts
Expands the “Team CSC” initiative that involves fundraising at the Nation’s Triathlon and similar sports opportunities
Assists in the development of strategies, collateral, and outreach focused on securing cause marketing partnerships
Collaborates with the CSC affiliate network to share best practices and explore potential joint fundraising opportunities
Oversees budgeting, strategic planning, and supervision of assigned staff and outside consultants
5+ years in development-related role that include responsibility for maintaining relationships with donors $10,000 and above
3+ years in a supervisory role
Experience working with CEO, board members, and organizational leadership
Demonstrated accomplishments and experience in securing new financial support from individuals and foundations
Familiarity with donor management software a plus
Experience in implementing strategic goals and managing staff in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and guidance
Strong communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively with team members and stakeholders
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with ability to evaluate and analyze situations to provide recommendations for solutions
Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools related to individual donor programs, foundation networks, and online fundraising
Demonstrated team-building and leadership skills
