SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The AAFP Foundation Executive Director & AAFP Vice President of Development provides leadership and overall management of the AAFP Foundation (pursuant to an administrative services agreement), together with oversight of the AAFP’s foundation and development activities. The AAFP Executive Director and AAFP VP, Development reports to the AAFP Executive Vice President/CEO and has shared accountability to the AAFP and the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees. The individual participates in AAFP leadership activities to the same extent as other AAFP Vice Presidents. The position will have overall supervision of approximately 9 AAFP Foundation staff. The AAFP Foundation is responsible for annual fundraising of over $4 million as well as an endowment.
Through a contractual arrangement between the AAFP and the AAFP Foundation, this position serves as the Executive Director of the AAFP Foundation and serves as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Foundation. The position provides leadership and direction for the AAFP Foundation’s focused development activities in three areas: individual donor development, corporate development with entities with similar interests/aims to family medicine, and other foundations and non-profit organizations with similar philanthropic aims as the AAFP Foundation.
The position is responsible for oversight of Foundation operations and compliance and serves as a spokesperson for the Foundation
The position provides leadership and direction for AAFP’s foundation development activities, working in collaboration and coordination with other divisions throughout the AAFP, and ensuring that the funding opportunities align well with other AAFP non-dues revenue strategies and activities.
Participates as a member of AAFP’s management team, involved in association issues of strategy and policy development and implementation.

To be considered, applicants must have a minimum educational level of bachelor’s degree. Minimum of 10 years management experience in a not-for-profit corporation, foundation, educational institution or health-related organization managing and cultivating corporate, foundation and individual contributions required. Fundraising knowledge and expertise, especially with individual donor development, corporate donor development and relationships with foundations is needed and having obtained the Certified Fund Raising Executive recognition would be a plus. Experience with both corporate development and foundations preferred. High level visioning, leadership and interpersonal skills required with a collaborative work style. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential due to the number and amount of internal and external contacts.
