We have an exciting full-time opportunity for an Assistant Director, Acquisition Marketing in our Washington, DC office. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing the marketing strategy for member acquisition, executing member acquisition programs and campaigns across a wide range of channels (digital, partnerships, direct, etc.), and leveraging campaign analytics to improve the effectiveness of member acquisition efforts. This individual will work closely with staff in Member Acquisition, Member Services, Market Research, Technology, Marketing, and vendors to coordinate activities and to actively contribute to and support other member acquisition efforts. Successful candidates will have a strong background in data analysis and digital marketing management or email marketing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage every aspect of the Member Acquisition process
Work with Senior Membership leaders and colleagues to develop, execute, and continually improve Acquisition strategy for new members
Develop, maintain, and grow AAAS’s use of traditional and emerging marketing best practices to acquire scientists, students, educators, and the general public as members
Stay up to date on trends and marketing channels, platforms, tools, and services
Monitor other scientific membership organizations to evaluate the effectiveness of AAAS’s Acquisition efforts, which may include conducting competitive analysis to support recommendations to senior leadership to make broad scope changes to our member Acquisition strategy
Overseeing all elements of email campaign development to include pre-deployment testing/QA and deployment of dynamic triggered and batch emails
Manage a testing strategy to continuously optimize email, landing pages, and forms
Develop metrics for assessing the performance of all marketing campaigns and assess against goals; Prepare regular analytics reports pertaining to ongoing efforts and demonstrate the effectiveness of campaigns and outreach
Assist in promoting AAAS membership opportunities during the AAAS Annual Meeting
Additional duties as assigned
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, MBA a plus
Minimum of eight years’ experience running a member acquisition program including developing, coordinating, and executing direct marketing campaigns (physical and digital) and managing external marketing vendors
In-depth knowledge and understanding of best practices for multi-channel strategies, including: email, display, social, direct marketing, segmentation methodology, community engagement, events, meetings
Expertise with A/B multivariate testing, email list segmentation, and triggered email journeys
Experience understanding, building, and interpreting email metrics and marketing data
Experience managing multiple projects with different levels of complexity
Ability to work successfully under tight deadlines and manage multiple, sometimes competing, priorities
Functional knowledge of digital marketing and analytics tools such as Marketo, Real Magnet, Exact Target, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics.
Strong knowledge of Excel and demonstrated data analysis experience
Ability to travel up to 5%
