Serves as the chief executive officer, responsible to the Board of Directors for the effective conduct of the affairs of the association. Recommends and participates in Board formulation of the association's mission, goals and strategic objectives and related policies. Within that framework, plans, organizes, coordinates, controls, and directs the staff, programs, and activities of the association. Oversees a staff of more than 30 people and combined budgets of $8 million for the association and related entities.
Recruits, hires, and trains staff and administers an effective personnel program which includes position descriptions, performance standards, performance appraisals, and a compensation system.
Develops and supervises an effective program of membership development and membership services.
Develops and maintains a communications program which is responsive to the needs of the membership.
Develops and conducts an education program to advance the professional/technical/managerial skills of the membership.
Organizes and conducts an annual convention.
Maintains an effective government affairs program to represent the interests of the membership to the State Legislature, Congress and appropriate government agencies.
Coordinates and maintains an effective Political Action Committee including fundraising and related candidate support policies.
Manages the finances of the association, including the preparation of an annual budget and long-range cash management.
Serves as chief spokesperson for the association in conjunction with the chief elected officer.
Maintains effective internal and external public relations.
Plans and coordinates meetings of the Board of Directors and the elected officials of the association; provides reports to the Board of Directors along with recommendations; monitors and assists committees of the Board and elected officials.
Serves in following capacities for association's for-profit subsidiaries - IBAT Services - Vice Chair & Chief Executive Officer; IBAT Marketing - President; IBAT Financial Services - President & Chief Executive Officer. Serves as Vice Chair of the IBAT Education Foundation.

Preferred Job Criteria/Background
Working knowledge and experience in the public policy or regulatory arena on the state and/or federal level
Minimum 7 years experience with a non-profit trade and/or professional association.
Served at least 3 years as the chief paid executive, number two executive or at a senior management level in a non-profit trade and/or professional association with a budget of at least $3 million and a staff size of at least 15, or comparable experience in the public or private sector.
Experience in managing the financial matters of a non-profit trade and/or professional association.
Certified Association Executive (CAE)
