DC-based scientific membership organization is seeking a high-energy, innovative, team player to join the Marketing & Membership Department. Candidate must be a strong communicator with excellent writing, analytical, and project management skills.
The Association for Psychological Science is a US-based international membership organization dedicated to the advancement and representation of scientific psychology across the full range of research areas in this diverse field. APS has 33,000 members and includes the field’s leading scientists, academics, educators and students. APS publishes 5 highly respected journals (with a sixth journal in the launch process), hosts an annual US-based conference and a biannual international conference, publishes the monthly Observer magazine, and has a broad public outreach program that raises the visibility of APS members, their research, and the psychological science field as a whole.
Oversees APS recruitment, retention, and renewal efforts, to include strategy, tactics, and schedules
Develops compelling messages addressed to current and prospective members
Manages onboarding process for new members
Oversees annual renewal telemarketing campaign
Manages membership web page content and updates
Works with vendor on mailing list rentals
Creates messaging for the APS Student Caucus (APSSC)
Coordinates membership ads for in-house and other publications
Helps facilitate and oversee student programming at Convention
Assists with overall membership budget
Manages fundraising efforts
Represents APS on site at events as needed
Other duties as assigned
A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in non-profit member-based organizations; comparable experience will be considered. Experience in the scientific community, especially in the behavioral and social sciences, is a plus.
Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to produce materials for heavy promotion schedule
Experience crafting communication for email, print, web, and other collateral
Demonstrated experience creating successful marketing plans that are results driven
Ability to initiate, monitor, and complete multiple projects simultaneously
Strong organizational and project management skills
Proficiency with CRM databases and Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); basic understanding of HTML a plus
Collaborative working style within department and across all areas of the organization
